I'm considering buying a new Chrysler vehicle but my wife hates losing On Star that's in her 2013 Traverse. On Star is not selling the hardware any more for vehicles not GM. Any suggestions?

What is she using OnStar for? Directions? Roadside assistance? Maintenance notifications?

tell her to learn how to use a phone, or the navigation system that every car comes with nowdays. I didn't even realize anyone used onstar for directions any since about 2008

The Chrysler infotainment system is actually one of the better ones out there for domestic vehicles. Just get the GPS option or for something cheaper use a Garmin or smartphone. Personally I use a Garmin for GPS and have Waze running on my phone for cop notifications. My Garmin has voice commands so you can speak to it and it will find the address. Hands never leave the wheel and it's cheaper than OnStar.

outside of the wow factor of having a nav system in a vehicle... I find that waze or google maps is infinitely better than any nav system in a vehicle. onboard nav systems are usually clunky and not designed well, they usually lock the shite out so you cant modify it while driving, pay for updates, seldom updated. its just shitty.

A GPS/phone will vocally give you turn-by-turn directions

OnStar is one of those things that has never made sense. Someone wanting it now? Holy hell. Get her a Garmin.

Saved a few people's lives over the years. My buddy's dad would be dead w/o on star alerting the cops that he had been in a wreck

It's not the service per se, but making people pay a monthly.

i got stranded in remote colorado with no cell service. onstar was pretty useful then. i don't currently have it activated on my truck, but if the wife's car had it available, i would keep it.

A smart phone has this, and you can buy a Garmin for $80 which does the same thing. Why pay a subscription for something so easily available?
