I just went back to cable after 5 years with internet only. Pay $95/mth for two years with DirecTV. I was paying that much for internet alone.

For our family it boils down to: you get what you pay for. My spouse and I are both technical so that aspect of cord cutting is not an issue. The hassle and inconsistent quality of streaming is very much an issue. Tonight I was trying to stream the Georgia game through Watch ESPN back on this computer while the new TV was playing the game on Cox Cable up in the living room. The streaming quit working often and as usual the cable reception was flawless. We have fast internet access so that's not the issue; the issue is streaming sucks fairly often and as you aptly point out it's not ready for prime time for viewers who don't want to put up with a bunch of bullshite.

It's not for everyone especially if you're expecting to have the same experience as cable and satellite. It's going to be different and the question is can you adjust and adapt.

The most complaints I hear are around getting all the local channels OTA as well as getting all the sports games.

I went to my buddies house to watch football last night and between the buffering and having to switch back n forth between apps for different games, I'm perfectly content with direct tv.

I'm planning on dropping DTV soon and that will be the biggest challenge for me. I know it's going to drive me nuts for a little while until I get a system or some solution down to bounce back and forth between games.

Sorry man, that sucks. My OTA is in my home office on the wall hooked to a Tablo. Directv Now was flawless for the LSU game.

Get the right antenna and you won't have a problem.

I brought an antenna to a draft party last night for a guy who cut the cord but didn't have OTA for the bama game. I had to explain to half the people there what an antenna was and how it was a free way to watch live local tv. So weird!

All of your reasons for going back to cable make sense to me, but you started out with a confusing game to stream. I'm pretty sure ESPN has the streaming rights to those 11AM ACC Network games even though it is syndicated in Baton Rouge on CBS.

Why didn't you just watch CBS using your OTA antenna?

Are you seriously suggesting that you would not have an internet connection if you weren't streaming? At the very most, the only internet-related costs you should factor in are the additional costs the cable company puts on you by unbundling/removing TV services, and maybe bumping your bandwidth up to the next tier (which, for most people who ever use Netflix etc., they'd already need anyway).

And Sling costs only $25 for every channel you need for college football, except FoxSports. Most can do without the crappy games on FS1/FS2. But if you gotta have 'em, yes, $40.

Yes, there's a little bit more of hassle, but to suggest:

Streaming simply doesn't have an answer for live cfb unless you want to pay as much or more than cable

is nuts.

I've been without cable for almost 2 years. Used Vue and Sling from time to time. I had my dad's login for WatchESPN.
My internet bill went up to $90/mth, which is just retarded.
Called Cox and got one HD box, kept the internet and it's $102/mth now for internet and cable. When the bill goes up in a year i'll get rid of it.

I really don't need the cable other than for DVR purposes. Kodi just isn't reliable enough anymore for me and i'm tired of dealing with it. I looked into buying a Tablo or HD homerun, but it ends up being like $300-400 for everything you need and it would be a PIA to hook it all up.

I'm betting there will be an app that can record your antenna channels soon. That's what I want. I would like to plug in a hard drive via USB to my tv and record my antenna channels through either an app or something like the USB TV tuners. I've got two USB ports on my tv, so one for the hard drive, the other for the USB TV Tuner than you plug your antenna to.

That already exists. Plex with Plex Pass will do it. Just hook up a compatible TV tuner to a Plex server and it will record your antenna-based programming, import it, and then you can watch it on any of your devices (computers, streaming boxes, or mobile devices). It will also stream live TV

And for just streaming live TV, that's existed for a long, long time, with things like Slingbox hooked up to an antenna tuner

Given my previous posts in the thread, it should be obvious that I am talking about when supplemented with an antenna.

I understand that doesn't work for you. I don't blame you for spending the money on cable if you got it and want the additional convenience. But you are an outlier in that situation. To say that streaming has "no answer" is ridiculous to the circumstances of a majority of people.

This is my problem with cutting the cord. Cox threatened to raise my internet to the point that switching to PSVue or Sling doesn't really save me anything.
