about a monrh ago I attempted to restore my phone back to an older backup.
It's an i5S by the way.
Well the itunes I have downloaded that i've used several times is a Dell laptop. I updated to the newest version of itunes 12.1.1 on it. I plug my phone into the usb (with a cheap $6 gas station cord) and it charges my phone, so the usb on the computer is actually working. But itunes isn't actually recognizing my phone.
It will usually have an option to click on the left hand side that would say "Jason's iphone" or something like that.
Well I don't exactly remember what method I went about trying to restore it a few weeks back but I do know I got about halfway through and I either had to stop it or it never finished and half of my icons/apps are still "black" and not useable.
Anyone have any suggestions? I just want to restore it to any one of my back ups from the past year if possible if I can get itunes to register when I plug it in. Hell I don't care, I'll register it back to factory and just redownload the apps I use the most if I have to. Although that would be a bigger pain in the arse.
Anyway to just restore it from wifi/icloud without having to plug it into this dell laptop?
Sorry if i'm sounding ignorant on the subject and asking stupid arse questions, also thanks for reading all the rambling if you made it this far. boucoup thanks.

Most of those cheap cords do not handle data transfer very well. Since it went black I think you'll have the connect the phone to your computer to restore. Go get a new cord that can handle the data transfer and just plug it in then let iTunes restore it to the last backup.. Should solve the problem of it being bricked. Then you can retry to restore to an older backup.
I had my last phone screw up an upgrade that stopped working halfway through and had the same problem.
Hope this helps.

Get a good cord
Those cheap ones are barely good enough to charge your phone
