Nokia’s 3310 returns to life as a modern classic

quote:

Nokia has sold 126 million of its original 3310 phone since it was first introduced back in September, 2000. It was a time before the iPhone, and Nokia ruled with popular handsets that let you play simple games like Snake. Now the 3310 is making a nostalgic return in the form of a more modern variant, thanks to Nokia-branded phone maker HMD. Like its predecessor, it will still be called the Nokia 3310, but this time it’s running Nokia’s Series 30+ software, with a 2.4-inch QVGA display, a 2-megapixel camera, and even a microSD slot.

nice, so I guess this is their big plan to go from 3% to 4% market share?

Blackberry tried this two years ago. That seems to be going well

A lot of old people would love that phone. Senior citizens like my dad that have no desire to have a smartphone because it is too confusing to them.

It's also probably a decent play into the developing world. Some guy in Rwanda isn't going to run around with an S8.

Is it weird that certain cell phones, like the Nokia 3310, Motorola v60 or the Nextel i95 make me feel nostalgic?

Could also be a good phone for parents to get their kids. Those kids that need a cellphone for safety reasons and don't need a smartphone.

That's a nice looking phone. But it just wouldn't be practical for me. To me that phone is good for somebody older that doesn't necessarily surf the web a whole lot

Nokia (The Company) Leased their IP to HMD. Nokia (The Company) has no stake in the phone market currently. Of course that can all change on a whim.

How I know? I WORK FOR NOKIA.

I got some news for you bud....as long as the word NOKIA is emblazoned on the phone....the phone effects "Nokia (The Company)".
