I'm in the market for a new pair of noise canceling headphones while I study for the CPA this summer. I've used a friend's Bose Quiet Comfort 15 headphones and they worked great. Not necessarily looking to spend $300 though.

Can anyone recommend a good pair? Don't really have a preference for over the ear or earbud type. Any and all help would be appreciated. TIA.

I did "extensive" research on this one rainy afternoon not long ago in Best Buy. I think Bose are better than Beats !

Start with the inner fidelity wall of fame. Realize that noise canceling in and of itself adds a significant cost to the headphone without much addition to the change in sound quality (I read $100 frequently); you will probably be happier with the quality of a nice pair of on- or over-the-ear. There was a thread here recently, I believe it was titled "recommend quality headphones" or something similar. It popped up about a week ago. I would link it, but I am on mobile and my phone likes to wipe what I've posted when I leave the screen with text entered.

I have the Bose QC20's... They work incredibly well, especially on ambient, background and road noise. Worth the price on long car trips and flights.

LINK to the other thread. Lots of good info, especially from Hopeful Doc

Still haven't made a decision myself yet.

I use these Audio Technica ANC7B. Pretty good combination of noise cancellation and sound quality.

Nice, I was actually looking at some other Audio technica ones and they seemed to be a great deal. You're happy with them, though?

Watching final two episodes of season 4 right now.

In ear or over? Most in ear are pretty noise isolating.

My favorite season

I'm open to either style. Actually borrowed a friend's in-ear phones today and they worked well. Just need something to drown out the outside noise so I can focus in on my studying.

Dangerous question when it comes to headphones. If you're ready to melt your brain and get super honest reviews from people who have listened to lots of stuff and aren't just Amazon customers reviewing their awesome new toys in their first week of owning them, head over to head-fi

Thanks

I don't necessarily need the sound quality, I just want a pair that will drown out the outside noise.

If that's the case; these would be the best $30 pair of headphones you could ask for. They're even on the "over the ear" wall of fame over on inner fidelity, next to some $400. They're most definitely worth what you pay for. And you get both 10 and 3ftc cables + a 1/4" adapter, if I do remember correctly. Until "Hopeful Doc" becomes "Actual Doc," he'll be sticking with these. Very flat, monitor-like response. I find them comfortable, though with the wrong-shaped head they can be a pain, I have read. Good seal around the ear. I occasionally use them just as earmuffs and to look like I don't want to be disturbed. For the price, you probably wouldn't be happier.

I just purchased Monster DNA on ear headphones over the weekend. The are normally $299 (but you can usually find them a little cheaper) Office Depot currently has them at $79. They made Beats until recently and these are better headphones with much less bass.

I'll have to give those a listen the next time I'm somewhere they carry them. I tend to avoid on-ear though. Wearing glasses instead of contacts isn't infrequent for me, and the way the on-ears (typically) press against the earpiece of my glasses hurts after a while.

I wish over the ear didn't look so goofy

Ear buds are inherently noise cancelling. They have some that are actual noise cancelling. If it wouldn't bother you, I would go with the ones Hopeful Doc recommended. The larger drivers would be better on sound quality.
