Obviously not spec'd out by any means, but at this price for a 10' tablet, its hard not to consider. Granted, it cost $15 extra to get rid of the baked-in lockscreen ads.

What do the Tech Board Experts think about these compared to other cheap android devices? Do they compete with any of the more expensive tablets?

Personally, I don't give a crap about having the best specs since all I would use this is basic video streaming and web-browsing. I rarely play games or would need to use it for work, so a cheap, mid-range tablet with ac wi-fi seems legit. Plus the benefits of integration with my Amazon Echo and Fire TV Sticks make this almost a done deal for me.

The New Amazon Fire Family

ETA: As of this morning, one user on XDA has stated that he was able to install google framework, services, play store, etc. and thus far every google app he has tried has worked.

Probably gonna snag the 7" one as a an e-reader for plane rides. Any web-browsing, etc that comes with it will be lagniappe.

I have a Fire and I don't like it. They are much too locked down for my taste.

It sounds like all of these tablets only have 1 GB of RAM. I wonder how much that would impact anything like streaming movies or making fun of people online. Probably not.

Can't decide if I want to go super low end and get the 7, or just go with the 10".

The lack of rooting and regular android might keep me from getting the 10".

I have a gen 1 or 2 fire, so I imagine it's got less RAM and definitely has a slower processor. It works with no trouble at all for NetFlix/Prime Video and playing tower defense games. If you plan to use it for more than that you probably need to check Amazon's app store and see if what you want is supported. You can sideload apps, but not having easy access to things like the google apps could be a problem for some.
