Nest question - heater came on while it was in cooling mode

It wasn't on Heat/Cool mode just cool. Woke up and noticed the screen was orange and the heat was on. I didn't think it was supposed to work that way.

If your house is anything like mine, your wife probably sneakily did it. My advice is to get a more complicated thermostat so she can't figure it out.

The only thing I can think of is it went into away mode and the temp dropped below your set temp setting for the hearer to come on. So it triggered the heater.

check to see what the min temp setting is on the nest and what the temp was in your house when it kicked on. If the temp in your house gets below the minimum temp, the heater will kick on.

Yes. But it's usually an extreme temp like 40. There is also a max end as well. It's to prevent from going to extremes.
