Need info concerning referral links

I am not terminology savvy so I will just try to explain what I need.
I am an online reseller and need a way to track my sales. I am duplicating/cloning a vendor's website on my domain and there will be a link going back to the original vendor website instead of my site operating a checkout system. I need to explain to my vendors what I need to be able to track the sales all the way through their checkout system because I will make a percentage of sales. Linking back is the vendor is the only way I will have current inventory/data.
Is this an easy thing to do or complex? What do I need to tell them to provide for me?
Below is one of my vendor's solutions, I need to explain to another vendor how to accomplish this, can someone tell me what I need to tell them in technical terms?
Link to your vendor's site from your site. The order would be captured, brokered, and paid through your vendor's website, and, in the process, a referral code would get attached to each order giving you credit for the order. Reports can then be generated showing what orders where placed, and how much the vendor owes you for the referral orders.
Coding gurus Please help!

Seems to me this is the time you hire some professional help, especially since on-line payment transactions are involved.

You would need to pass a referring guid or unique identifier in the referral link so the other vendor can store it as a reference to the transaction. This would be provided by them and you would store it as a configuration item on your side. Then the vendor would need to have a service that you could query your transactions and each's details to report out to whoever is paying you.

This is really on the vendor and not you. It might be your idea, but most of the work has to be done on the Vendor/merchant's website to set up the affiliate program. All you really need is an affiliate link given to you by the vendor after it's set up.
The vendor has options to make this happen on its end like joining an affiliate network like Commission Junction which is expensive or Clickbank which isn't as good, but way less expensive. Part of the problem with this route for you is that this will automatically open the door to a lot more affiliate competition for you.
Another option is to look into some third party affiliate program that the vendor can install on its server. Just google and you should should be able to find some.
The easiest option if you are lucky would be if the vendor is already using a shopping cart program that already has an affiliate system integrated into it.
No matter what the tracking has to be done on the merchant's end and not yours, so you will have to work very closely with the vendor to try to get this implemented.

The vendor you are working with will do all the work. You pass your client ID and the take it from there. Almost all shopping carts have referral functionality. Just ask them if they have that.
