Currently have an Apple Time Capsule, but thinking of replacing it with a new router and a NAS. Wifi has been kind of flaky lately, and streaming from Kodi is hit or miss. Looking for something that has better range than what I have now, plus 802.11AC. Tri-band not necessary, but dual band is. Would prefer to stay in the $150ish range or under.

I have the LINKSYS EA6900 and it's the best router I've owned. Might still be above the $150 mark though. I haven't checked recently.

Do you think I'd be likely to see increased range with the C9, or even the C2600 (although that's way over my budget)?

You might with the C2600 since it has an extra antenna. Honestly, the cheapest way to increase range is by changing the location of the router. Where are you keeping it now?

Can I ask for a modem recommendation ?

I'm using a router/modem all in one that I rent from cox for the last month and it sucks. I'm looking for a modem and router to cover 4000 SF single story home

I am looking for a quality product that I won't need to return

It's one of the best modems. You won't need to return it. If you got a lemon or it craps out after the warranty, you can return it.
