Simple problem that has me baffled.

I'm trying to get the inverse tangent of a number in degrees in an excel spreadsheet. I have a cell that has the opposite divided by the adjacent. I've tried ATAN= and ATANH= as well as different format for the number in the cell and I'm not getting the right answer.

What am I missing?

TIA

Try using 1/tan as the workaround.

Maybe use a formula to convert degrees to radians and take the arctangent of that?

That put me on the right track, thanks.

Took the ATAN in one cell then converted to degrees in the next cell.

I believe excel wants the value in radians.
