Suggestions for someone that doesn't use the internet much? At most we will have an iPhone, laptop, Apple TV and XBox One running at one time. Price is more important than having top of the line, but I want something that will utilize my internet speed and run as flawlessly as possible. Hulu has a reconditioned surfboard SB6141 Docsis 3.0 modem for $53, but not sure if I should just go with a modem/router combo. Any advice is appreciated.

Please explain it to me like you would to a 1st grader

Go to newegg.com and buy the most popular or highest rated in your price range. Do not get a modem/router combo.

Cnet.com and smallnetbuilder.com are good resources.

Flying cars are great in theory..But if the engine goes out, you don't have a car or an airplane...

Their performance is typically much worse than the equivalent separate pieces. I'd guess the combos run too hot, but I don't know that for sure.

well, I always tell people, to get the most recent technology they can afford.

I had a combo router wifi by motorola and I had to reset it all the time, it was a dog.

I currently have the 100.00 dollar motorola surfboard docsis 3.0 and I have a belkin n+ which needs to be reset once in a while, and I have another one in the box to replace the belkin whenever I get in the mood to mess with it.

so, most recent technology you can afford.
the motorolas are pretty stable and pick a 4* wifi unit on amazon with decent range and you should be good to go.

Dadgum - do we need a sticky for this topic? I keep thinking I posted in this thread title and it is another one on the same topic.

Literally every 2 or 3 days now, it seems.

I'm not beating up the OP or the folks trying to help, but seriously, does this topic need to be stickied?

I'll shut up if I'm the only person who thinks so.
