My old Linksys router sucks. Added a Netgear wifi extender, which helped a little but not much and it stopped working recently. I'm ready to update and start fresh. My iMac and router are in a small computer room in the corner of the house. Diagonal to that is my living room, then behind that is my bedroom. I'm wanting coverage for those rooms, with the signal having to pass through around 4 walls to my bedroom. Mostly we just use the iPad and smart TV while sitting in the living room, and are trying to get the smart TV working off wifi in the bedroom. I'm not that concerned about super speed, just getting service in all of those rooms. Looking to spend up to around $200. Reading online, I'm thinking of going with an ASUS AC1900 (802.11ac and 1900 Mbps). Anyone have one of these or any other recommendation for a decent router that will cover the whole house without needing an extender?

My last router was the Asus AC68U and its been a flame thrower. Nice to so easily use custom firmware, and my 5G speeds matches ethernet. Every time I think about getting one of the "latest/greatest" I come to the realization that there's little or nothing to be gained.

Literally ordered it today even though it's backordered on Amazon. Reviews are great. I can't deal with my router + this bullshite netgear extender anymore.

Got Google Wifi in and set up last week. Works exactly like it should. Devices on one side of the house connect to one hub, and to another hub on the other side. This allows for 5Ghz connections throughout my house.

The app also has built in options for smart home control. It's really worth it if you plan to go that route.

Going back and forth between the HD & Google wifi. Likelihood both are fine and overthinking this?

High.....I went with Ubiquiti for 2 reasons over Google Wifi A) it was available when I bought my house and B) obviously it had relevant reviews.

Of the reviewed mesh systems (obviously not including Google Wifi at the time) it had the fastest speeds on the nodes.

Why not get a second router for the other part of the house? If the one you have works fine, just doesn't have enough range, then splitting all the devices in your house between the two could be really good for your streaming quality

So a mesh system seems to be the direction the industry is going.

I know you can't really future proof technology, but would most here agree a mesh system is the way to go right now?

I have a uverse router in one corner of the house. Service is nonexistent in the other side of the house.

I'm planning to get the Amplifi LR system and disable the routing functions and defer them to the Amplifi router.

I see this alot. My smart panel is under staircase downstairs. My bonus/media room is opposite side of house upstairs. House is almost 5000 ft. I get deadspots down right now (att giganet with att modem)

Are you saying replacing NN in closet under stairs will give sufficient coverage to opposite side of 5000 sq ft house upstairs?

Edit - I have CAT 6 thru house as well. I'm just tech retarded

Extremely happy with my plume performance. If you don't rely on any advanced custom settings it is all the wifi you could ever need.
