My wife's motherboard bit the dust last night. I haven't had a chance to look at it today but she took it to the apple store and that's what they told her. She got a new Macbook (not the pro) today and wants me to transfer her old hard drive to her new SSD. I'm fairly certain I can do this, but haven't done it before.

Will I need any special tools or parts and has anyone done this on Macs before?

search amazon for a 2.5 hdd usb enclosure. remove the old hdd and pop it in the enclosure then plug in usb, copy files.

also, look at macsales.com, you need a couple of small tools if you don't have them around the house.

Check the link below, i had the same issue on mine, put in my SN number and was covered. Apple mailed me a box to send them my mac and covered it 100%. Came back to me 10 days later.

I would have never known about it without posting the same question a few months ago and behold the power or TD.com

Interesting. Hers is only the 13 inch model though so it doesn't fall under that umbrella.
