Marantz 4430 Repair Options
Posted by RaginCajunz on 5/31/15 at 9:12 pm00
I posted this in the music board, but this is probably a better spot. I have a Marantz 4430 receiver that is working, but gives a random and loud pop. Then the music cuts out, sometimes to return immediately, sometimes it triggers a protection mode and has to be turned off for a minute. The guy I bought it from was up front about it probably needing a recap soon.
Is there anyone in the BR area that does that sort of work? I can solder a bit, and could probably swap out a capacitor or 2, but wouldn't know where to begin trouble shooting.

I'd find a good rebuild guy online and ship it to him... Little bit of a hassle but you know it will be done right.
If you don't want to go through the trouble I'll buy it from you.

I have a Marantz 1250 that needs work. Loud buzz/hum thru the speakers, though the amp still functions. May have to read up on those forums and see what it needs for repair.

I posted, and got a response to check for DC coming through the speaker outputs. Reading up, that sounds and looks exactly like my issue. I haven't dug deep enough to know how to fix it, but its nice to have a lead on the problem.

Audio classics in Binghamton, New York is about as good as it gets for repair. They are a bunch of guys that all worked at McIntosh over the years and can fix just about any vintage piece.

Marco, semi-related, don't you have a recommended guy in Uptown for audio gear? A buddy of mine has a 70sish Pioneer receiver that went through Katrina (didn't get wet but got hot and maybe a little warped). He'd like to get it repaired/thinks it just needs some internal resoldering that's above his paygrade.
Any idea if something like that is worth repairing? Or if it would be expensive enough that he should just replace it if there's no particular personal attachment?
