I just switched off of cable to AT&T Fiber internet. The 2.4 Ghz network reaches everywhere I need it, but the 5Ghz network has a very small range and doesn't quite reach my office.

What Wireless AC range extender would you guys recommend?? I would prefer something that is inexpensive, and if possible can use the same SSID as the 5ghz network in the rest of the house.

I'm a fan of wireless access points. Regardless, though, you'll have better performance if the device plugs into your router rather than piggybacking the signal (if it's possible - obviously if you cannot run a cable a decent distance to your office, go the piggyback route)

Whats the point in using a range extender @ 5Ghz when the 2.4Ghz works fine?
You are cutting your throughput in half with extenders.

The 5ghz network I get speeds of up to 600Mbps up and down, the 2.4ghz network only seems to do around 30 Mbps up and down. That is why I wanted to extend the 5ghz network. I do have an ethernet port the AT&T guy ran to my office, but it's on the wrong side of the room for me to use and he said he could only run 3 pair instead of 4 for some reason (which I believe limits you to 100Mbps).

If you are only getting 30 Mbsp down on 2.4Ghz side then you definitely have obstructions or distance issues.

1st option would be re-position the current router to see if you can get better signal.
2nd Replace current router (especially if its a AIO modem/router from the ISP) with a good one.
3rd would be run a proper Cat6 and install a WAP
4th would be look into a full home mesh - Ubiquiti AmpliFi for example.
5th - distant 5th - is a true wireless fed wireless range extender.

eta: powerline adapters can be hit or miss, but when they hit they are a GREAT option. would slide this option in between 3rd and 4th above

Just put this in for my back yard, it has given me a much better signal outside. Fairly easy to install once you have a line run from your router.

It has PoE capabilities, if you have a router or switch that supports it (I bought a switch that does because I'm planning on adding a few PoE cameras in the future).
