What's a solid brand that goes for a fair price? I don't shite about the market on harddrives. All I have is a 225 GB SSD at the moment.

Desktop, laptop, or external? I would hope you aren't replacing the SSD but rather adding a hard drive.

It's hard to top WD for customer service. Overall, I've had slightly better luck with Seagate, on a reliability standpoint, but I've been on those 2 brands for years and years.

I had some IBM/Toshiba drives that failed way too early. They were 2 different sizes of the same model in 2 different computers. May be anecdotal, but it was a departure from WD and Seagate that I regretted.

Seagate owns Maxtor now, so those are the only 4 brands of HDD I know anything about.

The last 2 seagate drives I have purchased (one internal and one external) have failed me. I won't buy another hard drive from them to save my life. I'm in the market for one myself, just a matter of when, but I'll probably end up getting a WD.

I bought this one off Newegg on Cyber Monday. Hasn't given me any problems.

Sorry, it's for a desktop. Internal hard drive.and yes it will be supplementing the SSD.

Sounds like WD is getting the most praise?

Yeah, the WD Blue is pretty much the go-to consumer drive.

I actually only buy Western Digital HD's (Blue and Green) because I never have any problems with them.

Had a couple of Seagates go bad.

I have bought a ton of hard drives over the past few years..

This! Absolutely this!

I've even had great success buying WD drives off eBay for a tremendous discount.. No issues and still under warranty.

Speaking of, I had one for about 7 years that eventually failed on me, and every customer service person I spoke with told me you're supposed to change them every 2 years or so.

I've had great experience with WD Black in my desktops and Red in my servers.

Blue is probably what you want. Best price for what you get.
