Any of you know of any resources, free or paid, that can teach me the basics of SAP? Seems like they keep all of the teaching resources to themselves and you have to be one of their clients to get training.

I love SAP. If it were a blanket I could just wrap myself up in it and smother myself to death. I'm working in it right now on my other monitor :)
I realize this post has nothing to do with your question, but I just wanted to take a moment to remind the world how fantastic it is.

dead serious. I love nothing more than being able to close my office door to the world and just bury myself in tables.

Google sap and the particular module you are interested in. Lots out there but you have to dig for the user friendly stuff.

Former SAP guy here (basis/dba). Used to work for IBM and traveled the country doing roll-outs. Cost over-runs on every project and customers eventually realizing they got screwed by vendor lock in did not help my self-worth so I eventually got out and went a different direction. It's a necessary evil for larger institutions though and certainly a valuable skill to have.
The best way to learn is to get an entry level job (IBM) and get thrown into a project. Short of that, there's lots of blogs that cover a lot of different aspects and how-to's. Google is your friend.
