I'm going to get a new laptop soon.
Basically looking to put pictures from phones on there and use it for iTunes. Maybe a little other storage, but most of my internet usage would be on my iPad.
How much memory should I be looking for? Can you recommend brands?
What type of virus protection should I get?
TIA.

Read what he's intending to use the laptop for. 4GB is fine.

For now, but memory is cheap. Unless he knows how to swap it out, I think it is always best to start with as much as you can afford.
4GB may be fine, but my computer regularly uses 5GB just because I have multiple tabs open in Chrome.
