my rearmost three windows can be opened by anyone who understands zippers and velcro, so some kind of high tech short range universal access blaster is overkill in my case.

Same here. I never even lock the doors. I'd rather them rummage through all my daughters crap that lives in the backseat, see the Tuffy console, and move on, than cut my windows. Those tops aren't cheap.

I don't keep anything of value in my car. I'd be pissed if they stole the stereo or airbags, but as long as they're just looking for cash and electronics I would sure as hell rather they do this than smash the driver side window, or try sticking a screw driver in the door handle, both of which I've had happen.

After watching pop a lock open my truck for me a couple years ago, I made my own kit that I keep in the toolbox, only had to use it once so far, other than to test it out. But it is not difficult at all to get into a locked vehicle. Granted the alarm will sound but that wasnt the question.

If I had to guess? I'd say it's some sort of app for a smartphone. Good article on this subject below.

They're breaking into cars with them in my neighborhood. You can buy them on ebay. We were told to wrap our key fobs in tin foil or keep them in the microwave...

Researchers say the software guesses pin codes by analyzing hand movement and geometry of your particular phone. Using this technology, researchers were able to accurately guess the security codes of several phones. Their highest quality video produced 82-percent accuracy after just five guesses.
The software can be also used on videos of ATM as well. So what can you do to protect yourself? A few simple tips might help.
This is when having a fingerprint unlock on your phone and never going to the ATM come in handy.
