My mom ordered this laptop for her and my dad. Is it decent, or did she get screwed and should send it back?

It's a QVC "deal of the day" so I'm thinking she got taken in by their sales pitch on TV.

HP 17 Inch Laptop

She paid $580.00

Specs:

Includes laptop with AC adapter; Premier PC Support for life of PC

Windows 10 Home operating system
2.5GHz seventh-generation AMD A12-9700P quad-core accelerated processor with 2MB cache, up to 3.4GHz

SVA BrightView WLED-backlit HD display

12GB DDR4 SDRAM

2TB 5400 RPM SATA hard drive

SuperMulti DVD drive

802.11ac Wi-Fi

Bluetooth wireless technology

Radeon R7 graphics

DTS Studio Sound with dual speakers
HP TrueVision HD webcam with digital microphone
Full-size island-style keyboard with numeric keypad
Touchpad with multi-gesture support
Multi-format memory card slot
USB 3.0 port
Two USB 2.0 ports
HDMI, ethernet ports

Thoughts?

It's decent....probably about equal to an average Ivy Bridge I5.

ETA That's on the processor......everything else is about what and what....I think 12GB RAM is probably more that most average home users have.

That processor isn't that good and the laptop doesn't even had a SSD.

So... send it back before even opening the box, basically? If she can't go ahead and cancel the order, that is.

They shine up up really pretty on QVC, and my mom eats it up sometimes. Especially when she's bored.

This is a deal breaker for me. It creates a huge bottleneck in performance to not have a Solid State Disk Drive nowadays. However, for what they paid you can easily put in a small SSD, and get a shell for the HDD to be used as a storage disk.

It's not terrible, but as others have said, the power of the processor and memory are a little above average but aren't worth much with an old 2 TB hard drive. Your mom probably will never know the difference, but you could get a laptop for the same price that runs much faster with an SSD instead of an old hard drive.

A 17 inch laptop is probably really heavy also.

But... "they made it look like the greatest laptop ever" on TV.

If only I could delete QVC and HSN from her channel lineup.

It will likely be fine. If they have crappy performance just put in a solid state drive or return it
