I find myself having to reset it like once a week now. Either the volume goes out completely or I can't use the remote to search whatsoever. Anyone have any solutions or ideas that can help with this?

I haven't had any problems like you've stated. I've had some problems with netflix not acting right and having to restart netflix.

I have a 3rd gen and I occasionally have to do a hard restart. It's not uncommon for most pieces of tech that get left on constantly.

Is there a way to reset the box without unplugging it? Every now and then some of my apps mess up and can only be fixed by resetting the box.

Yes, it's at the bottom of the list in the settings app.

I've had a strange issue where my tv input won't have volume unless I turn the Apple TV back on

Probably dumb to mention, but make sure the most recent updates have been downloaded. As someone else mentioned, you can reset it normally, which I believe removes all the apps. Or the full reset that restores it to factory settings. The full reset is a pain in the arse, but it has fixed a few of my issues in the past.
