Requesting help for freeing up iphone space. It claims I've used 12GB and only have 1.5GB available. The screenshot below shows all of my pics, music, and apps and their total size which only adds up to less than 5GB (of the alleged 12.5GB used).

Where is this remaining (7+ GB) memory??? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

Here you go. I am pretty sure your problem is the 'Other' category taking up too much space. This link talks about how to fix the problem: LINK

Any particular reason you haven't updated to iOS 7 yet? Another way to fix your space issue would be to upgrade to iOS 7 and set up your phone as new and reinstalling your apps.

I didn't start having the issues with "other" taking up a huge chunk of space on my iphone 5 until I upgraded to ios7.

I had to completely erase everything on the phone and restore from back up to fix it.

Yeah you're right, 'Other' is taking up the missing 7.3GB. What the hell... Now I have to figure out how to clear this all out.

The reason I realized this is because I was attempting to finally upgrade my ios and it said I didn't have the free space for it.

Thanks

Do you have every text message saved for the last few years?

I had 10 GB of texts on my phone at one point.

Text messages take up a LOT of space and count as "other" in iTunes! I go through and delete mine frequently.
