iPhone Data Transfer

If I buy a new iPhone at a retail store, say Wal Mart, can I still take the phone to an Apple store and let them handle the data transfer? I know I can do it via iTunes or iCloud, but I'm lazy. Just wondering if they'll do it fit free it even for a fee.

They probably would do it for free but it'll take you longer to schedule an appointment than it would to start the transfer.

I didn't know an appt. was needed. No walk ins huh?

You can walk in but there's usually a longer wait if they're busy.

They will only transfer your phone numbers. Not back up your phone and restore it to a new one. Plus would you honestly want people looking at your photos as they transferred?

I just called tech support and they said they would transfer all the data for free. All data. Not just phone numbers. Interesting.

It's simply a transfer. It's not like someone is sitting there looking at the photos one by one.

You're too lazy to do it yourself but will drive up to the apple store to do it??
Man, it's not that hard to do at all

Honestly, I don't want to screw it up. I'm a tech idiot. Just being on this board makes me nervous.

It's pretty much impossible to screw it up. Just back up your current phone to your computer and when you plug up the new phone iTunes will automatically ask you if you want to restore the backup and it'll choose your most recent backup.

There's an even easier way.
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Back Up Now.
Let the phone back up to iCloud. After it is backed up, turn on your new phone. It will walk through a series of set up screens. One of those screens will ask you to put in your Apple ID and Password then ask if you want to restore from the cloud back up you just made. Say yes and select the most recent back up.
Voila. Done. It will download everything (apps, photos, contacts, settings, etc.)

Nothing to be nervous about. If you're more comfortable with Apple doing it then let them. We all have a pretty wide range of technical ability here
One question though...is your current phone an iphone or something else? I don't think that was clear based in your OP

You are correct. Won't do videos in the videos.app either, but it will do videos you shot that are in the camera roll.

Thanks guys. I actually did it myself with no problems. (That I know of anyway) I appreciate the input.

It would take you longer to go to the Apple Store, get it transferred, than it would just to download iTunes and transfer it yourself. Plus, the creepers aren't perving your stuff.
