iPhone 6 camera lens cracked - UPDATE with pic of cracked lens

Anyone else experience this?
I'm on my fourth iPhone since 2007, I still have all 4 before I bought the iPhone 6 and I've dropped them repeatedly. All 4 do not have a scratch, much less a crack on the camera lens. I've had my iphone a month and the lens is cracked. I didn't notice it after I dropped it, but it was there one day. So, I can't prove to them that it was due to it being dropped or just laid down on the face. Horrible design with the lens being exposed as it is.

I bet the Apple Store will swap it out no questions asked.

Wrong. After dealing with them they want to charge 299 for accidental damage coverage to replace the phone. Can't just change out the lens.

Well that sux. When I saw that lens sticking out I thought well that's just trouble waiting to happen.

Did you purchase apple care? If so, is the camera lens specifically covered?

I did not purchase Apple care. Expensive lesson to learn! Searching the apple forums, it seems others have had the same issue.

I was going to say that the camera assembly is really really easy to replace, but I can't for the life of me find any place selling the lens itself for the 6. I'm sure it will be easy to find eventually, for really cheap, if you can be patient for an indeterminate amount of time.

Im not sure if it will be available. Both the guy at the store and support said it was all one component that couldn't be replaced. I find it hard to believe though.

Why don't you have a case? Even the thinnest case sold protrudes out enough to protect the lens. If you have a case then it was just bad luck.

Yeah those links are just for the camera, though. Plenty of those being sold, but the lens itself cannot be found yet. It may very well be attached really securely with adhesive, but if there is a demand for a any sort of workaround, it will eventually happen. Sounds like quite a few people are cracking or scratching the lens.

Really terrible design by Apple. I love my 6, but the camera lens protruding is just ridiculous.

It's going to get worse. Cameras can only be so thin. Phones are going to keep getting thinner.

This is a choice I've made. I don't like cases. I have never owned a case for any of my previous phones. If I drop them, I take responsibility for dropping it. This tread is about the lens cracking. I can't prove that it cracked as a result of poor design and apple can't prove that it cracked because I dropped it. Apple wins. But poor product design is poor product design. As mentioned before, none of my previous iPhones have experienced cracks in the lens.

Well then should the phone really be that thin? If the tech to make the camera smaller is not there, then the tech to make the phone thinner is not there. The phone can only be as thin as the thinnest component.
As for OP, are you still going to go without a case? Honestly, between the protruding lens and not want surface scratches, that's why I use a very thin plastic case.

I wouldn't mind a case if I found one that I like. All the ones I've seen have been too bulky.

But a phone+case makes it back to be thick enough again. Most people do use a case, so I find this advantageous.
I do get your point though, and I'm not absolving Apple of blame here, but ever since the iPhone 5 I've considered it pretty stupid to go without a case.

From what you're saying it doesn't sound like they need to.
