iPhone 5 volume won't work while charging

Never happened to me before until now, works just fine wren not charging.

It could be the charging cable... If you are using a non-oem charger it could cause the phone to do some wacky stuff including volume problems. Use an original charger and see if it makes a difference.
Edit: or the source of power can make a difference too... Non-oem cube putting out too many amps or not enough.
