Every night for the last week my Internet has gone out around 9 and doesn't stay connected even if I reboot it. Before 9 it works perfect, never have any issues, able to watch whatever I want. At 9 it stops working.

Only two of us here and we're both in bed watching netflix around that time (we have to wake up early) on weekdays. Our phones are always connected to the wifi and we're only using our TV for Netflix at that point so it's not a usage issue. In the morning I can wake up and my Internet is perfect again without touching it. I've also checked and I don't have any unknown devices connecting to my network at this time.

Anyone have any ideas or clue to what I should look for? I have no idea what to try at this point and it sucks since it seems to happen no matter what I do. I live in an apartment complex FWIW, but we never have connection issues before 9, and I would imagine any type of volume issue would be just as bad at 6 or 7. And also I'm on Cox

I have similar issues with ATT DSL...Sucks that they are my only option out here in the sticks. It's not at 9 per se, but between 9-11 it gets unusable and I have to tether my phone.

If I understand, the issue is with your phones & wifi. I am far from an expert, but this is the initial testing I would do...

Test whether you still have decent speed to the internet when plugged in vs wireless... assuming you have a laptop or desktop you can plug directly in to the router via Ethernet cord.

If your phone is crapping out at 9pm, go to your laptop/desktop and try that on wifi (if possible). Does the laptop connect when the phone doesn't? And if it does, does it also lag more than usual? Then test how the laptop performs when plugged into the router.

- If the phone doesn't work on wifi, but the laptop works on wifi, it may be the phone/phone antenna, or interference (a neighbor or commercial entity might start using a lot of electronics at 9pm that interfere with your wifi... in which case, best bet is to try to change your wifi channel/band).

- If the phone doesn't work on wifi and the laptop doesn't work on wifi either, but does work via Ethernet cord, it is likely some sort of signal interference, or possibly the wireless router.

- If the signal is still vastly slower or non-existent when plugged in, then you may have a bad signal from Cox into your house, or it could be something between the modem and/or router.

If you test this way, you should be able to eliminate a couple of possibilities. And with more refined info, some of the savvier guys on here should be able to get you closer to a solution.

So you live in an apartment. Need more info to go off of...
Do you have your own cable/internet subscription, or is WiFi provided by complex? If the former then you need to check your router settings/connection. If the latter then you need to contact management.

I have my own service/subscription. I've checked my settings to the best of my knowledge, haven't seen anything where it should completely go out at that specific time. I get 50+Mbps over wifi the rest of the day (my own tests), but at that time the actual Internet goes out. The wifi still connects usually, but I lose the connection from the router/modem to the Internet

I've tried plugging into the modem directly and I still don't get Internet connection during this problem time. So that's most likely either Cox or the modem right?

its on your ISPs end, nothing to do with your equipment. they'll probably just lie to you and say its your stuff because they either a) know its a problem and havent come up with a solution or b) know its a problem and have determined it costs too much to fix.

i know this is a dumb question..but is the router brand new?

if its a refurb or someone gave it to you there's a distinct possibility some type of setting exists to shut it off at that time.

this is enough done on your end to acceptably point blame at ISP. I'd call it in and tell them it's unacceptable, especially with the impact it has on work that you have to complete during the hours of "service interruption"

You stated you "plugged into the modem directly". Is your setup:

cable modem > router > computer and/or phone

If so, it would likely be better to plug into the router instead of the modem; you may not get a connection if you bypass the router... I might be mistaken on this, and there might be different modems & routers or modem/routers that act differently. If I'm wrong, hopefully someone who knows a little more will correct me... Also, I guess if you plug directly into the modem (with a laptop/desktop/not your phone) before 9pm and you do get a connection, then I'm incorrect.

Assuming you get a plugged in connection to the modem before 9pm but not afterwards, then yes, most likely it's Cox or the modem... but more likely Cox since the modem works earlier in the day.

One of the problems with most broadband is that it's shared across multiple customers... unless you're paying more for a dedicated line. So, if 20 neighbors all start downloading movies at the same time every night, your actual speed will very likely take a hit. Still, if you usually get 50mb, you should at least get a slow connection instead of no connection. You might have to plan on calling Cox tech support at 9pm and enduring a 30 minute call and make them test it when it's not working... and you might have to do this more than once.

Charter gave me the same problem for a 4-5 week span. Then it stopped happening. They blamed it on "maintenance"
