Tech wizards...

I am thinking of purchasing an A/V receiver to use with existing speakers in my house. We have two inside and two outside that I would like to hook up be able to play sound through a TV, the radio, bluetooth streaming, etc.

Additionally, I would like to tie in my Samsung soundbar into this receiver. Unfortunately, it does not have any HDMI inputs or outputs. It's the only thing currently hooked up to my TV and only has a fiber optic cable running into the television (which is how we have it hooked up now) and a auxiliary input.

Any ideas as to if I can tie all of these together through the same A/V receiver?

Thanks in advance!

Absolutely. You will most likely need a 7.1 channel receiver with the extra 2 channels assignable to a 2nd zone. I like yamaha and Denon. There are other good brands though.

Denon avr-x2100 looks like it would fit you needs. It's $399. Has Bluetooth, wifi, 7.2, etc.

Thanks. I guess I would have to tie in the soundbar using the auxiliary throughput?

You can run HDMI from cable box to receiver. Then run fiber optic cable from receiver to soundbar. Run another HDMI from receiver to tv. I would get a universal remote too if you don't have one. Harmony remotes are good for the price.

There are different ways you could do this.

Are the 2 inside speakers in the same room as your tv/ soundbar?

ie- are you trying to use the soundbar like a center channel and the other 2 as surrounds?

OR are they are in a different room and you just want stereo sound coming out of them?

Yes, they are in the same room as my tv/sound bar.

Talked to a guy over at Crutchfield and he doesn't seem to think I will be able to tie in the Soundbar to the A/V receiver.

However, as we got on the subject of A/V receivers, he recommended the same Denon X series that was already recommended ($399) in this thread as well as a few more...

Denon AVR-S710W

Onkyo TX-NR737

Both of the linked ones are 4K ready and the Denon X series is not.

So, my original question still stands, but any advice as to which one I should go with?

What's the model # on your soundbar?

It's a Samsung HW-FM45C

And actually, there are two HDMI ports on the soundbar, as well. One in & one out.

LMK if you find one that is actually intuitive and not preposterously complicated. I have a Denon and it's the opposite of that.

You can connect the receiver to the soundbar via HDMI, digital optical, or auxiliary(pages 12 & 13 of user manual). Obviously, use the HDMI or optical.

I am not sure why the guy told you otherwise.

I guess it can be connected but he was under the impression it wouldn't work as they work completely separately. I guess there's really only one way to find out....

It is not ideal I guess, but you could hook up the soundbar via HDMI. Then runner speaker cord to your other two speakers inside and create a 4 channel stereo sound.

I think that's what I'm going to do. I already have speaker wire run from all 4 speakers (2 inside and 2 outside) so that's how I was planning on connecting them to the receiver. And then setup 2 zones - one inside (incorporating the inside speakers and hopefully the soundbar) and the other outside.

Go pick one up on Craigslist... I just got an older Harman Kardon AVR 635 off a guy for $50. A little beat up, but works just fine and saved a few hundred bucks.
