So I offered a guy online $350 for a 2009 iMac desktop. It's a 21.5", 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of memory, 1067 MHz DDR3. It's Graphics specs: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB.

It appears to be in great shape, box and everything included. I see them on eBay for upwards of $500. What say ye Tech board?

Yes, that's a good price. Assuming this is just going to be a general use (browsing, pictures, video, documents) machine?

Yeah, just general use. I don't do video editing, photoshop, or anything that people usually buy iMacs for, but for $350 I don't see how this could be a bad purchase.

It sure looks like it. What's the hard drive size?

You can buy a new laptop or desktop with MUCH better hardware for just a little more money.

Well he could get a Mac Mini for $599 but he still needs a screen.

That's obvious, but he's looking at a Mac, and I'm tired of the 5-page rehashes of the same anti-Mac unhelpful trolling and anti-Windows clumsy defensiveness.

I would check to see if it's an early 2009 model. There's a defect in the video card that causes overheating. Only reason I know this is a client recently bought one off of eBay and the display would go nuts and the machine would freeze. I thought it was just defective, so I ordered one through my wholesaler. It did the same thing. Researched it and it seems to be pretty common with that model.

I can't find the apple forum discussion that I saw originally but found this one that describes what happened to us. LINK

It was a great price point but they ended up just buying a new one from the apple store. Just a heads up. At least make sure there's a return policy on the eBay item.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Its got a 500 gb harddrive and expandable memory to 16 gb. I've never owned an apple product and honestly have hated on mac many times in my life. But for $350 I'll take a chance.

Also, its a late 2009- good looking out

I bought that same model in 2009, but with the ATi card.

It was a great computer until I ran into the issue the previous poster posted.

I would ask the guy if he ran into that issue. You can boot the machine and it'll look fine until you start to use it, then that's when it would start to freeze.

If you do buy it, the first thing I would do is open everything on it, and let it run for a good 2 hours to make sure you don't have the issue.
