I posted this yesterday on the OT and got the usual smartass responses. Thought you guys might find this interesting.

'09 Acura MDX. Bluetooth wouldn't pair with any phone. Found a thread on an MDX forum about removing the Hands Free Link module and putting the circuit board in the oven at 385° for 9 minutes to "reflow" the solder.

Worked like a charm! Bluetooth working correctly now.

The Interweb is fricking awesome.

Ever hear of such a thing?

Yeah, I did this with an Xbox 360 motherboard to fix the red ring of death.

Mixed flux paste with rubbing alcohol to make a flux liquid, used a straw to dribble it under all the problematic chips that develop cracks in the solder

Popped that baby in the oven

Never had a problem again

Possibly, but you'll void the warranty

No shite? I'd never heard of doing it in an oven. Figured it would melt the board. Of course I'd heard of people resoldering things, but not putting the whole circuit board in the oven.

Pfft, back in my day, we used to drop our Atari ST's from a 6 inch height onto a hard surface to reseat the chips. That was back when things were made to be easily fixed!

FYI this is usually only a temporary fix as the issue is with the solder in the BGA (ball grid array) connection of the chips on the board. You just basically heated the solder to where it repaired a connection in the solder that may have bee cracked or something. You can look up info on it and see that it's usually a temporary solution. How long will it last? Who knows. Just an FYI that you still may have to purchase a new board eventually.

Yeah, I've read posts by people who've done it and it lasted anywhere from 3 months to a year and a half.

I'm selling it anyway, but it's not like I'm ripping off the next owner by hiding a major issue or problem. It's just the Bluetooth.

I fixed my oven with a Post-It sticky note between ribbon cables after searching on a message board. Been working 3 years now.

This. Make sure to also wrap it in aluminum foil. This will help it retain temperature and prevent any toxic gasses from getting out.
