I have an idea for an app, but I'm not sure how to go about making it a reality. I don't want to give away to much information, but it's basically an addition to the camera function. How does one go about getting an idea turned into an app? I'm not computer illiterate, but I'm definitely not a programmer. Can anyone tell me where to start?

You can hire someone for pretty cheap in India. Honest truth.

I've done some google research and found a few companies that are interested, I'm worried about getting screwed over by them though. How does one go about finding one of these Indians you speak of?

:rubs hands together:

dude, if you have even minor computer skills you can whip up a prototype in no time flat using the AMAZING tool MIT/Google built called "app inventor". i raved about it already but here's a 1 minute video from google

LINK

video is dated..they've dramatically improved it since then but i highly recommend it. my son was building apps in a day.

you have access to all the phone's sensors (accelerometer, GPS, proximity sensor, etc etc) in a ridicuolously easy to use drag and drop solution.

you can hook your app into an online database, cloud storage, etc. etc. very easily.

its a prototyping tool but there's no reason your app couldn't be listed in the play store..its a one time $25 fee to join then you can just upload your apps to your heart's content.

you can grab ad services and plug them into your app to generate revenue and just about anything you'd do using traditional C++ or Java.

if you need it for iphone..you're kinda outta luck because the cost of entry is MUCH HIGHER, there's a million more hoops to jump through and you're stuck with Apple's expensive IDE.

eta no link for you to app inventor because if you can't find it..you probably shouldn't be trying to build an app anyway

Thanks for the info. I'll start playing around and see what I can come up with.

I am creating the app for rat through app inventor. It is a great tool. Even created a few for my son to play with. It certainly has limitations but for most simple tasks, you should have no issues

Listen to this podcast. It's a little outdated but he tells a lot of details about how he hired people to write his app ideas. Good stuff. LINK

I would use elance.com

You can find some devs to do it for cheap. I pick up work off of there sometimes when things are slow at work to make some extra cash. I also know some capable devs if you want to shoot me an email.

Shoot me an email at J.Petermantd@gmail.com if you don't mind. I might need to get a developer involved.
