I got a pretty cool idea and want the Tech Board to help me think through this...

We have a playroom for the kids upstairs that currently just has a bed in it for guest. Here's my plan...

- White board paint on one wall for art/teaching etc LINK

- LED Projector that would project on said wall

- Large kid play rug

- 2 love sacs

So the reason I'm posting this on the Tech Board is I'm wondering if the projector on a white board painted wall is going to work. I want the room to be multifunctional as I plan to use the room to watch my movies in there as well... just worried about loss in picture quality etc.

Thoughts? Think it'll work?

What kind of texture on the walls? I have seen a projector used on a smooth wall that was painted with that stuff. Looked fine today me. I would assume a textured wall would be a little funky

Not entirely sure since I've never used that white board paint, but would think it will have a textured look/feel since I'll be painting it over regular dry wall...

You need a smooth surface....paint on textured dry wall will make the picture look like shite. How about a motorized projector that comes down from ceiling when wanting to watch movies?

Don't use whiteboard paint. It is highly reflective and will create hot spots. First, you must use a smooth wall. The picture will look like crap on a textured wall. Just tape off the area you want to use as a screen and smooth that area out with a block sander until smooth. Will it make a mess? Yes. Deal with it.

Then use a white primer. After that, use Screen Goo. https://www.gooscreen.com/. I recommend the gray if you are using a DLP or LCD projector. It reduces the lumens some, but will increase black levels and contrast significantly.

The reason you want to use this and not just a regular paint is in the reflective properties. Screen Goo disperses the light evenly and does so without absorbing light or without reflecting too much light (creating hot spotting).

Good luck.
