Please help if you can on any advice or suggestions. I just got back from BB and they gave me some options as I do need the rear speakers to be wireless:
1. Sonos - They liked going component route better, but this is an "easy" choice maybe? $2,000+
2. Pioneer Elite SC-91 they had it on sale for $550. It's $950 on Amazon.
-Definitive Tech 8040 towers w built-in subwoofer. $1,100 for pair
-Def Tech 8040 center $350
-2 In-ceiling tiltable speakers but I forgot to get brand $1,000 for pair. I think Speaker Craft, just checked on Amazon and they have some ranging from $120-$250 so not sure if same ones.
-Rocketfish wireless rear speaker kit $100
Total = $3,100 or <$2,600 if less on ceiling speakers.
3. "cheaper system"
They still recommended the Pioneer SC-91 but they also liked to a less degree the Pioneer VSX-90 which was $400
-Def Tech bookshelf PM 1000 $450 for pair
-Def Tech Pro Center 1000 $220
-Have to buy a subwoofer now and they showed me two Def Tech models ranging from $500 (350w)-$600(600w).
-And then still need the in-ceiling speakers
-Rocketfish wireless rear speaker kit $100
Total = $2,750 to <$2,250 again depending on ceiling.
I took pics to show living room layout if someone needs to see them. Cannot run wire to the back. When I put in the split A/C, I had my electrician friend put in those 2 LED lights and also put 2 outlets in the soffit. So the power is there to plug in the wireless receiver and then the 2 speakers into it. We just need to cut the holes for the speakers and done.
So I looked through past threads and found some recs on receivers like:
Yamaha RX-V677 with Bluetooth adapter $399 (no Atmos?)
Onkyo TX-NR646 $400
Denon AVRX1200W-R Refurbished for $400
What receiver from the 5 listed would you go with or other recs?
How about tower w sub vs bookshelf w/o sub and any recs?
The in-ceiling speakers are important and I like being able to tilt them towards my couch, but it's not a deal breaker if there's an excellent pair that don't tilt for a great price.
I'd really like to be under $2k if possible.
Sorry for the long post but I figured I'd give as much detail as possible. TIA
ETA: paging VABuckeye

Damn that place is cluttered.
Do you have electricity going to the speakers that need wireless? They don't power themselves you know. If not and you have to get power run then skip the wireless crap and just get them wired.

Option 2 all the way. If your wife/gf lets you pull off those towers in the living room do it. Those towers jam and easily the best sound of the options. They are coming out with a new model so you can find a good deal on the towers. The AVR is also at its end of life so you can get a deal on that too. I wouldn't pay $1000 for rear speakers.

I have a cool wife and she goes with whatever I tell her on tech, plus she likes watching movies with me and the soundbar isn't enough. And all that clutter is her shite so it can fit.

Better than what they quoted? Amazon and Crutchfield has same price. Just found the 2 for $998 on Designer AudioVideo so that's $100 cheaper than the rest.

He told me that and that's why I think $550 is good when everywhere else I've looked it's $900+. Or do have a better place to look?

I don't want to nor will I. Any suggestions?
How are these Speaker Craft

I'm not a HT expert, but this is for certain:
1)
DO NOT BUY FROM BEST BUY. You're going to get overcharged and they don't have the best quality equipment.
2)
I have no idea if those are any good (they seem to have good reviews), but you can get these for under $600 at Amazon. If you liked them, then go for it. But save yourself that $500.
3)
Unless I'm misreading your post, DO NOT spend that much for surround sound. They're not going to get nearly as much work as your two main speakers, and shouldn't even be on when playing music. Unless you watch a shitload of movies, I wouldn't spend more than $250 on the pair.
I have no idea about the amplifier. I'm one of those crazies that can't hear the difference in amplifiers putting out the same power.

Somehow I missed that whole section
I would not put expensive speakersin the rear because the Rocketfish kit only puts out a crappy 25 Watts per channel.

Spend the $4k on an interior design makeover. That place makes my eyes bleed.

I normally don't. I wanted to hear how things sounded. But they do price match Amazon. The Pioneer receiver was cheaper there than anywhere I've seen though.

Those are the price each so the $1,100 is for 2.

Yeah, I think the ones I found on Amazon for $120 each look good. Waiting to see if anyone else has recs.

I did not know that. Hmmm. Any other kits you know of better?
ETA: Here's a Monoprice brand that does 30w/per channel

Ah. My bad.
Have you thought about monitor (small) speakers? The price range you're looking at for front speakers, you could get a pair of the KEF LS50's, which are supposedly INCREDIBLE. Looking at your current living room setup, you could install them without moving any furniture. ~$1200 could get you a pair, $250 could get you a pair of good surround sound speakers, and another $250 could get you a pretty solid subwoofer. Would leave you plenty of room to get whatever receiver you want within your budget.

Thanks, those probably sound great. The thing I really like so far about those tower speakers is they come with built-in subwoofers. I would still need to buy that with these KEF.
I need to understand more about the receiver and what I really need.

Onkyo and Pioneer are manufactured together, you can't go wrong with either one. Just like the other products the 646 is at the end of it life. The 656 models are already out in the wild. A few years ago Onkyo had some issues with their AVR but those are all in the past. I would buy a 646 in a heartbeat especially at a discounted price. It's been a solid piece so far.

I would NOT get the Def Tech tower speakers. Those are bipolar speakers and placement is critical. They generally must be placed a couple of feet out from the wall and cannot be shoe-horned into a corner. While it's nice that they have a built in sub placement is also very important with a subwoofer and your choices for placement are obviously limited with L/R speakers housing the subs.
They are solid speakers but I'd use them in a dedicated theater and not in a living/family room setting.

Thanks. That saves $200+ over the Pioneer SC-91. There's a refurb for $350, but I'd rather pay $40 more for brand new.

They could go next to the TV stand on each side and wouldn't be in a corner and could be a couple feet from the wall.
But I'd love to hear any suggestions from you since you're the expert. I'd rather not drop $1,100 for the 2 front speakers but it seems if I go with some without the subs then I'm buying a separate subwoofer anyway and I'm still at $1k+.
As I mentioned in my OP, I'm trying to stay below $2k if that's even possible?
Onkyo $400 - do you like this AVR?
What do you like on:
2 Front speakers (w sub)?
Subwoofer if not?
Center?
How do you like those SpeakerCrafts I posted? Any better suggestions?
I'd really appreciate your input. I don't need something that blows the windows off, just something that sounds deep and has nice surround sound. The soundbar I have now is so weak.
ETA: I'd PayPal you or tigerwise some money if you really save me money and give me great suggestions if that helps

Took the pics down so the figs on the board don't get weak-kneed anymore.
Found these Polk in-ceiling that can tilt
Polk Audio MC80 $130 each
Polk Audio RC80i $150 for the pair
And they have plenty more that get more expensive like Klipsch, Monitor Audio, and Def Tech.
Thoughts?

Why do they think you need the SC-91?
The low end Elites like the VSX-90 usually have a comparable non-Elite model, and this year, it's the VSX-1130. The big differences between the two is the warranty, the authorized seller list, and the front panel LCD color. I'd certainly buy the 1130 over the 90 if it were cheaper, but that $400 for the 90 sounds like a really good price.
I looked at the Def Tech 8040 speakers, and each has a built-in subwoofer, so whichever AVR you select, you want its room correction software to handle dual subwoofers. The VSX-90 and 1130's MCACC Pro does.
