Does anyone use old smartphones as home surveillance cameras? There are some apps that allow you to do this and it seems like a cheap and easy way to put a few cameras looking out to my driveway from a window and into my backyard the same way. Can anyone recommend an app?

I read something about Presence, but it only has 3 out of 5 stars on the app store.

Good for a front door cam or checking in on the kids/dog but they won't be worth a damn a seeing somebody jacking the rims off your whip.

CCTV has become some cheap you can find a good cheap option.

biggest complaint with mine, is that 10second record. Sometimes I get someone coming to the door on one camera and then them driving off on another camera

you can change the recording time to 2 minutes. I know Netgear is working on extending this recording time till it doesn't detect motion anymore.

Why not? I can put a phone in my window pointing out to my driveway and it will capture this happening. Now, I'm not sure how well it would work at night because of lack of nightvision / infrared on my iphone 4s.

Yes, but I would rather spend $0 (or very little) to use a couple of old smartphones if they can meet my needs than drop $150-300 on a surveillance system.

I average 100 or so recordings a day (cars on the streets, etc.) and use "high dollar" batteries...About to switch to your cheap ones

ETA: I cannot find where to set recording time

in the app select "Mode"

Select custom

hit the pencil to the right,

Add rule. Name the cameras one at a time. Once named then select the pencil to the right of the record video. Here you have a slider bar that you can change the record time

We just installed Blink. I love it! Inexpensive and batteries are supposed to last a year. It's wireless I can pull up live on my phone anytime I want and I get notifications when motion is detected. Cool system
