Home Surround Sound Installation Cost

What's a roundabout $$ to expect for installing speakers in the ceiling and possibly 1 on the back patio? Any particular brands/companies to use around the LC area?

Probably cheaper to put in a sonos and even though the system is more expensive initially you don't have to pay for installation and you'll be far happier with the features imo.

First time I've heard of this? Is this just for music or for tv also?

If our house hadn't already been wired with 4 ceilings speakers already installed, I'd go the Sonos route.
The true Audiophile would hate that but 95% of the TV a normal person watches is 2 channel audio and I feel like the 5.1 Sonos setup can handle movies pretty darn well. As great as a movie theatre and their 10k sound systems? No. But pretty close.

Holy crap. People have gone bandanas.
All so there's no floor standing speakers with visible cables? Wow, what bothers people is just unreal to me. The amount of compromise is heroic in most men now. When WAF rules all discussion, you end up with the linked system.

Or receivers. Simplicity of controlling sound by phone or remote, linkage of speaker to speaker and they can be placed in any room or even outside.
Not having to run wires through house or attic.
Not to mention Sonos's music tie ins to those speakers and such.
There's a lot of benefit to Sonos, like it or not.

I just don't see it, but hey I'm in the minority I know.
I have an Apple airport that receives, bit-correct, my entire music collection (on a hard drive, CD quality, under the iMac in the TV reflection) and outputs to an external DAC that outputs to my receiver.
The airport can connect to any phone in the house on my wifi network, as well as any app or music source in my iMac, so anyone can play their music or YouTube or anything directly to my stereo. The entire system, outside of the other speaker, is pictured below. Hardly some monstrosity. My blonde wife can work it, one switch and one button, so, yea.
I understand my house is a POS and no one's wife would accept that garbage...but I wouldn't accept a wife that didn't want to turn it up sometimes. Sounds amazing for movies as well.

I don't disagree and my house is a wired house, just giving the guy alternatives, just as CAD mentioned.
Some people and/or their wives don't or can't have speakers all over. For instance, I have kids under 5 so wires and speakers on the ground are just asking for trouble.

hey to each their own. here's my old setup (you can't see the surround in this pic) from circa 2007 at my old house.
Note the rocking frickING SDA windows smart phone on that little table and that vizio is still going strong today..it lives in my 15yo daughter's room.
eta that fricking 360 was only available in white at the time..COMBO BREAKER.

Keeping the pimp hand strong.
Yea right, this is what a 'surround sound' stereo should look like, minus the towers being on towels.
That's 'electrocute the kids' type shite.

CAD, what speakers for L/C/R are those? Still rocking them?
Posted on 6/8/16 at 1:42 pm to DoubleDown
The horns don't give 'em away?
ETA: Guess not.

That really is. That would blow my kids down, it really would. I actually don't want THAT much sound. My living room isn't that big.

AVS Forum darlings - Acoustech & a HSU (sp?) sub. VERY long story.
Yes, they are in my son's basement bedroom now..in fact pretty much the whole setup in this pic (except for the tv) is what he's using now.
VERY VERY good sound. Our new house just doesn't really lend itself to putting them anywhere..thus they live in the basement room.
hold on and i'll post a pic.
1. yes my son's room is always a disaster
2. yes he's rocking a 'retro' trinitron for all his old NES, colecovision and plystation 1 consoles.
3. yep he's got the old couch too.
4. yes that is the overpriced alienware on the $30 walmart table because he hasn't found a desk cool enough yet.
5. frick off, i know that diffuser is hanging out of the ceiling panel. i'm working on it!
