Of course every house and scenario is different however I'm trying to get an idea of where people are placing cameras around their home.

lots of options here, not just the shitty 'security in a box' crap at sams these days.
- check out foscams (but they aren't supported by any smarthubs yet i dont think)
- nest dropcam sucks. they charge monthly (asshats)
- i cant remember the name of it..but there's an app that you can run on all your old smartphone laying around the house to have them work as webcams. its really slick.

Try to cover your cars/garage, front door and rear door. Depending on the cameras you get, and the focal length of the cameras, that may be enough to cover most of your front and rear yard.

Mine are all outside and are aimed at doors and windows.

Main entry points to start, then cover as best you can without any blind spots. I'd start with main hallways if you have a limited number.

Is anyone putting them inside the house?

I have one inside my garage, but not inside the rest of my house. At this point, I'm relying on my alarm system to scare them off.

Four corners, front and back. One in carport. One at front door. One inside facing front door, one facing down main hallway. Yes, I am paranoid. I've had someone try to poison my dogs at the house I am in now and I've had vehicles vandalized in the past elsewhere.
