Decided to finally upgrade and I noticed this new modem is missing an outlet on the back. My old modem is connected to my computer via a usb cable and there is no usb connection on this modem. I'm trying to connect the modem, router and pc. I tried connecting the pc to the router through the ethernet cable but that didn't work. Any ideas?

Did you call the ISP and provision it?

Didn't know I had to do that, never done it before. Do I just call and tell them to turn on my new modem?

Yep. They'll want numbers off the label, so get your magnifying glass ready.

Took a while, but that worked. I did a speed test earlier and then again just now, my ping and download speed both increased, upload didn't change much. Oh well, at least it works now.

That's 99% of what matters the most considering you didn't have a DOCSIS 3.0 modem.

Btw are you still connecting your new modem:

Modem - Computer via USB?

Modem - Router - (Insert switch/wifi/nothing) - Computer
No USB directly to computer

I've got the modem connected to the internet port on the router and one of the ethernet ports on the router is connected to the pc. There is no usb port on the 3.0 modem, that was my problem. Or so I thought anyway.

If I read that right, you're good.

Modem - Router "internet" port.
Router - Computer on a built-in router switch port.

My issue security wise was your previous setup. Modem - USB computer.

Obviously you've figured out the problem now, but that USB port was that on your old modem for use on computers that don't have ethernet ports from the 90s and early 2000s. That port is removed because everything has an ethernet port now for like almost 15 years, and recent devices that don't are meant to be used with WiFi.
