My girlfriend is looking to buy a new laptop. She really wants a Mac, but I am trying my hardest to convince her otherwise so I need to present her with some non Mac options.

Lets go with a $700-800 budget.
Her primary uses will be Microsoft Office, Netflix, and typical home workstation stuff, no gaming. Would like to have a decent size HDD. Most I've seen lately come standard with 1TB anyway. Does not need touchscreen. Something light and portable.

I think we can make this work. Are there any deals out there on a great laptop?

TIA

The main selling point for a Windows PC or laptop over a Macintosh is bang for the buck. You will get more processing power, memory, storage and better video for the money with almost any brand with Windows compared to a Mac. The only real reason I know of to get a Mac is if you video editing software that is Apple proprietary and you need to be collaborating with others using said software.

Here's a darn nice Asus laptop with an Intel I7 processor, 6 gigs of memory and 1T HD at Walmart of 550 bucks: LINK

I bought this and have been happy with it so far: Asus UX305FA-USM1

If she doesn't need the computing power (browsing, streaming, Microsoft office work only) and doesn't need more than 256gb of storage, I think this laptop is hard to beat. Build quality is great, long battery life, 8gb of ram and no HDD, and ultra portable. Only cons are the speakers aren't great and the track pad leaves a little to be desired.
