HD going in and out on WatchEspn

Recent cord cutter here. Have high speed fiber internet. Amazon fire tv hard wired. Been watching college baseball on the WatchEspn app mostly on Espn2.
I've noticed the HD Kind of going in and out during the game. I don't really have a problem with freezing or buffering but notice the game is not in "HD" every couple of minutes during the game.
As mentioned, I'm a recent cord cutter. This isn't a deal breaker or anything, I'm actually happy with my decision. I was just wondering if there is something I can do to prevent or if this is just a common occurrence with streaming on the app since I don't really have a problem with freezing or buffering

Ok no expert here..
For whatever reason, certain devices work better with my internet. Try out Roku, FireTv, PS4, appletc, etc all hardwired and see what gives you the most consistency.
If you turn off wifi during important viewing then no one can compete with your stream either
Also I've also been fine with 720p so I usually select that instead of automatic

What do you mean by select 720p instead of automatic. How would I go about doing that?
I also saw a thread the other day of someone saying their Amazon fire tv worked better over wifi instead of hard wired. Was thinking of trying that?

Yes it is a WatchESPN issue.
Have a 2nd Gen Fire TV Box connected via Ethernet and it is near unwatchable.
HBOGo, Netflix, Amazon Video, etc.. all work fine for me in HD quality, but WatchESPN has been terrible for the Finals and College Baseball.

Yeah my was doing it constantly during the LSU game.
However, I use my brothers log in for it so I can't complain too much

This is an issue with Watch ESPN itself and not the devise your using.

Cool, I guess it wasn't just mine. Didn't really think to try another app like Netflix or Prime tv to see how that worked but I suspect I would've had no problems

I cut the cord 2 years ago and have been running WatchESPN on a fire stick and FireTV with zero problems up until now.
I can tell you its not a problem with my hardware.

same. worked fine for a long time, but has been atrocious during LSU baseball and the finals. every other app is streaming just fine in glorious 4K UHD.

I have to disagree with your disagreement. I rarely have an issue and when I do, other people are having the same issue. Also, I can back out of the game I am watching and enter a different game within the WatchESPN platform and it will stream perfectly. But when I back out and get back into the LSU game the HD will drop from time to time. This is not an issue with my ATV4, Firestick, FireTV, Iphone or Ipad. Ive tried this on all these platforms with the same outcome.
