I'm looking for some good time wasting video games that I can play on my work laptop. My new project has an uncomfortable amount of downtime. So I'm looking for some cool, non sports type games. My laptop isn't anything impressive (aside from it's absurd weight), so I doubt the top modern shooters will run very smoothly.

So far, I've gotten Civilization V, which is pretty cool.

First of all, I would suggest not downloading games onto a company laptop.

Company sees games > company investigates online usage.

Companies investigating online usage is NEVER good.

a-hole. You reminded me of that game and now I have to play it again.

ETA: Made it to level 92 just now.

Very true. Although technically, I'm not in an office, and am never hooked up in the company server. I have to wifi tether with my phone to get online access.

But either way, I'm in a situation to where I could spend 10 hours a day online, on the clock, and I'd still have my company tell me that I've done a great job (at least for a few months, until the real work begins). Till then, I'm basically just there to keep everyone else honest.

I have been gaming for many years, yea, I am old as dirt. Skyrim is the best PC video game I have played to date. If you like excellent graphics in a huge world, action and adventure type games with a crafting system, housing and a seemingly endless series of interesting quests, you will love Skyrim. As an aside, Skyrim has some pretty hot female characters in the game who can serve as followers/companions and you can even marry and adopt children if you like. The morality of the game is entirely up to you. You can be a murdering, thief, blood-sucker if you choose or a valiant knight type or anything in between; it's entirely up to you.

He is not going to be running Skyrim on his work laptop.

That would depend on the work laptop. My wife's work laptop is a 17" HP DV7 with decent enough integrated video to play Skyrim on the Medium detail level. If SKyrim is a no go, he might try Oblivion which I think has slightly lower requirements. But yea, if it's a cheap laptop with crappy integrated video, then your choices are pretty limited.

Kerbal Space Program just came out of beta yesterday. It looks like a time wasting game of Biblical proportions.

I recognize the name. I was a tester for that game.

Civilizations II is the GOAT. Won't run on a modern computer unless you have full XP compatibility but you can get Civ Chronicles (which allows you to play I-IV).

Time wasting game? World of Warcraft has wasted more time than any game ever.

I second this. Peerless as the greatest turn-based, time-wasting strategy game of all time.

I know the first person shooter, action/reflex kids of today will laugh at this, but I literally played Civ II for 16 to 18 hour stretches - back in the day - whole weekends of college.

Though it one day may, Everquest has this game beat from a time wasting perspective, and it isn't even close.

When WoW came out it mostly appealed to pussies who couldn't handle the grind of EQ. I'm pretty sure I've wasted years of my life just sitting in EQ waiting for a spawn, or grinding AAXP.

He claims he's played Civ so he's probably used to spending 10 or more hours straight playing. Civ is like Monopoly (except actually fun). You need to be really careful about when you start playing because once you do, your plans for the day are likely shot.

Friends and I used to refer to Civilization as video crack due to its addictive nature. Many all-nighters were pulled in player versus player games.

I played UO, EQ, and WoW, and I can say without question, EQ was damn near ALL grind. It wasn't bad and I loved it, but it was definitely nice to see things go a different direction. I have battle scars from my EQ days, and I don't want to see my kids suffer through the same. UO was awesome as shite, but it just got too old.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 is my time killer. It could definitely run on a shitty work laptop. Second vote goes to Kerbal Space Program.

Both games can gobble up significant time.
