The Nexus 6P and 5X are both capable of shooting 4K video (2160p). Once this new policy is in effect for Nexus devices, full-resolution 4k video will be free to back up.

CAD, how does Google store pictures on your phone? I.E.-Many of my older photos are actually on iCloud and only a small, avatar version is available on my iPhone to review. When or if I click on it, the original, full-size version if quickly downloaded to my phone.
Does Google do the same or are they going to push to do the same thing here?

Worst case. Best case is they start charging a premium once you've built up your library.

I'm still pretty pissed they made one of the internet era's greatest creations in Google Maps, and then had the audacity to give it away...to everyone...for free.

CAD, how does Google store pictures on your phone?
When you go to play a video or whatever though there will be a delay as it's streaming.
In other words if you have a fast connection or are on wifi you'll never notice if the photo is coming from your phone or Google.

So it's the same set up as Apple in terms of how they store. My iPhone photos are available on my iPad and vice versa.
Just curious as to GOOG's setup.

Anyone who provides a cloud storage service smartly will make sure its method of access is seamless between devices and nearly indistinguishable from local storage.

Amazon Prime already offers unlimited photo storage at original quality. Oh CAD thread lol....
No care about video.
We try to print everything we want to keep on good quality paper/print though. This is a lost era waiting to happen with beginnings of cloud storage. However it's not like anyone will give a shite about our food, friends and family 50 years after we are dead.

What types of online editing tools does Amazon offer?
It's also not free. You have to be a prime member.
But feel free to pick and choose.

I have a 1 year old, still don't care about video, especially unnecessarily large 4K.
I am pretty gifted with high end editing software. Not sure why I want free stuff.
Feel free to keep making assumptions.
Also I would have prime without this, so it is pretty much free for me.

1. Speaking from someone who had a Sony hi8 camera in 1997 when my son was born and looking at he quality now, i'd say there's nothing 'unecessary' about 4K video that you want to have for memories 10 years from now. how can you say you don't care about video?
2. you don't care about having your video AUTOMATICALLY always backed up so you never have to worry about it? i guess you also enjoy having to hit control-S to save your microsoft word document, autosave is for careless/lazy people right? i mean you couldn't possibly drop/lose/have your phone stolen with an especially great video on it that hadn't been copied manually to your PC right?

what does this have to do with unlimited free online storage of your media at original quality?

feel free to keep pretending you don't care about having all your 1 year old's video available for anyone in your family to enjoy anywhere in the world with no effort on your part to 'burn a DVD' or texting them a 160x120 grainy video.
eta i used to burn VHS copies from my HI8 video every time i filled up a 2 hour tape and drop it in the mail to my parents. they live 9 hours away and got to experience as much as they could of my kids growing up.
fast forward to today (have a new 1yo) and my mom has a chromecast on her TV at home and i simply say 'add to shared album' whenever i video or take pics of something especially adorable and she gets notified instantly via email there are new photos or a new video and the youtube/google photos UI streams it at the best quality possible to her TV.

1. I don't watch or care about my videos from when I was young and I don't care to take any now. I rather photos. My wife does care about videos, she keeps some for herself and has storage for herself through Amazon and iCloud. If it is only available on Google devices, it wouldn't be important to her, she likes Apple.
2. My phone does automatically back up. It's mostly filled with memes for texting. If Me or the wife are taking good photos, we have DLSR and mirrorless cameras. It's not automatic.

You asked me about what editing software Amazon has, I don't know because I don't use free software. This was a direct response to what you asked, maybe you should ask yourself further about this one.

It's not pretending... If you don't understand, that's fine you are your own person with your own opinions.
My wife does all that with shared photo/video albums on iCloud which is what both sets of my in laws and what's left of our grandparents use. Not sure how this will make it easier.
