Google Chrome is hogging CPU

I have a Macbook 5,1 (Late 2008 model) running Yosemite. The HDD has been replaced with an SSD, and yesterday I upgraded from 4 to 8 GB of RAM. My processor is a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
Currently I have 1 tab open to create this post, and Chrome Helper is using 86% of my CPU. I really didn't notice this problem until a few days ago, and it really makes me wonder what could be going on. I've done some digging, and the only fix I've seen is to select "Click to Play" under the Plug In settings.
While I've tried to follow those instructions, I never actually found that specific setting. I did do something similar, but it doesn't seem to be helping.
Any suggestions?

For people to love chrome as much as they do, it is notorious for being a resource hog. I just don't get the love for it.

Yea, I never seemed to notice it until more recently. Perhaps I simply solved the other problems with my computer speed, and now my CPU is the bottle neck.

I like the cross platform bookmarking so I live with it. OP -- switch to Safari. Better native Mac performance & better battery life.

I've always used safari on Mac. Does what I need I guess. On Windows though I like chrome never noticed cpu usage on it.
