Getting back into XBMC / Kodi

So I'm looking at setting up a multimedia device for my house, and I'm starting to look into Kodi/XBMC.
The only real experience I have with these is that I had XBMC on an old modded Xbox about 5 years ago (when XBMC was actually for Xbox ).
I should be able to pick up the software pretty quickly, but I'm wondering what hardware I should start with. (preferably something I can go grab from best buy) From my limited research I'm seeing the Nvidia Shield and the Nexus being recommended.
Anyone have any other input?
Mainly will be used for streaming movies and music, 4k capable would be nice but not necessary.
Thanks
Also, if someone could point me to a thread highlighting some good add ons (I'm sure its been discussed already), that would be much appreciated as well.

Get either an Amazon Fire TV or an Amazon Fire Stick. I would go with the Fire Stick..it's $44 after tax.
Any other questions?
