Echo Dot, my questions

Since the other thread is CAD + others fighting.
I just ordered one of these, I have Amazon Prime and use Amazon Music. So how do I set up being able to listen to music.
Also most of my house is not set up smart, I just started buying smart outlets and placing them where I want and outside of that the only smart device I have is my coffeemaker. will I be able to maximize my enjoyment?

I generally love CAD but he's flat out wrong on the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, etc.

If you just ordered it from your Prime account, they did all the hard work for you. You just need to install the "Amazon Alexa" app on your phone and begin the process of finding a new Dot. It's easy after that. Once it's setup on your wifi - that's it. You can just say:
"Alexa, play rock music" or "Alexa, play princess radio" (for my girls).
As for smart devices, they need to be compatible with Alexa but most are now a days. You'd have to look online on what to do but generally you can get the specific coffeemaker app and see how to integrate that with Alexa.
Once you do it once, it's easy to figure out how to add other devices. Honestly, I watched a YouTube clip or 3 on how to do setup for certain devices and it saved me time.

I have one on the side of bed that I use as an alarm clock that goes off at 6:30 every weekday morning. Nice just having to yell at it to get it to shut up.

I got really spoiled when I lived with my girlfriend and could just say "alexa, bedroom off" and now I can't do that. I have to find my phone and hit a few buttons. it's really annoying I'm going to get an echo dot soon, but I have other things I need before getting to the toys.

It's much more than that. Ask it to tell you a joke. Ask Alexa to encourage you. Ask it who were the main characters in the movie Chinatown. Ask it to tune into ESPN Radio in Baton Rouge. Ask it what's going on in the world. Ask it what the weather's like where you are. Ask it what the weather's like in wherever you're headed to go fishing tomorrow. Ask it to set a timer for you when you've got a beer in one hand and a plate full of burgers headed for the grill. Then ask it to play Outlaw Country Music.

It's still not ready for prime time. I can't believe it won't control my Fire TV. If they want to own the Smart Home they need to come out with a Harmony Hub version of the Echo.
