If so, I have some questions..

1. Which one do you use?

2. Are any good ones free?

3. Are they really a safe alternative to remembering each individual password?

- I use 1Password
- KeePass is used by a lot of people, and it's free, but I don't have any personal experience with it
- Yes. Using a password manager allows you to generate and store passwords that individuals can't remember, which are more secure. For example, my banking password would be something along the lines of TCvayjK2TK8Dd6zxrLrmgZQpmCNtEqtL, which is extremely secure and cannot easily be attacked using brute force or dictionary cracking tools. If you try to memorize all these individual passwords, you'll never remember seriously secure passwords.

1. Name one and I have probably used it for either work or personal use. I currently use both LastPass and KeePass. LastPass is great if you need to store credentials for web sites exclusively. It is not very amenable for use with client-based applications that run on Windows. It works but is a bit manual at times requiring endless copy/paste operations. KeePass does everything well except make itself easily accessible from multiple locations. It doesn't have a smooth, easy browser-based extension implementation. There are a few out there but I found them inconvenient. KeePass works great installed locally on a single machine. Usage across many PCs gets a bit clumsy but if you are the DIY type, I highly recommend KeePass.

2. See #1. For web sites only, try LastPass or DashLane. I recommend both. For sitting in front of a single machine from which you work all the time, I like KeePass. The autotype feature is great.

3. Safe? Hmmm. There is no absolute safety. The bad guys work non-stop to get your data and they are good. Most current protocols and technologies were created before anyone envisioned the scope of threats we face today. Be vigilant. Security is a layered protection that requires care and feeding. Patch your OS and applications regularly. Use complex passwords, change them regularly, and NEVER re-use a username-password combination across multiple sites. Don't give the bad guys any help. The harder you make it for them the more likely it is that they will pursue lower hanging fruit (someone else's accounts). Sorry for the ramble. I hope that helps you.

RoboForm. It is useable across multiple platforms and requires a master password to get to other passwords.

I store my KeePass files on Dropbox so that I can access it at home, work and on my phone. There is a setting that allows you to have it open on multiple devices and it will merge any changes made.

I use KeePass on my desktop, and I copy/paste a small subset of my passwords to a second "Mobile.kdbx" file for use by MiniKeePass on my iPhone. MiniKeePass does support Touch ID, so it's pretty convenient to use. For the desktop, I configured KeePass to auto-lock when I lock my desktop, which I always do before leaving it unattended.

I've used lastpass and keypass a good bit. My wife and I share a KeePass for all our house/shared accounts. I use a Dropbox-like program to sync the DB. I've used the chromium plug in for KeePass web Form auto fill, which isn't great but works. I'd probably use that more if I could find a way to have it use a separate DB than my shared one while potentially having both open at once.

@CubsFanBudMan...I work fine and I have actually done that, too. I was addressing the "easy" part, though. That's not easy for most people.
