We have trouble with dropping and slower connections in areas of the house. Two story.

Of course they work, why wouldnt they?

Now if you're trying to get streaming tv and 3 phones thru an extender, there could be issues.

Sound like you need an access point

Is there a way to get just one device through the extender such as a computer for streaming, while keeping all other devices connected to the router? I am thinking of not giving the password for the extender if there is even a different password, to anyone else in the house but me. So only I can connect to it. With this work

In my experience, not really. Much better to just add a wifi port on the other side of the house that mirrors your current system.

I hated the one we got so I sold it and just bought a beast of a router.. Much more pleased.. I had a nice router before but the new one has like ridiculous range now .

If you're willing to spend $150 for a router (Netgear AC1750 Smart Wi-fi Dual Band router), it's going to be worth the money. You can pretty much catch 100% of the speed instead of using <33% with an extender.

Wifi-extenders can make a difference but remember wireless is half-duplex so many of these products will cut your wifi speed in half for each one you install.

That's what I have except I have the Nighthawk. It's was like 150-160

I think I have the AC1900. Any ways, I had tried a wireless extender but it was still weak, took up more room, and a hassle, and it dropped a lot..

Always look for the latest firmware udpates when you do get routers.

In my experience folks that extend their wireless network via a wireless method always get less results than they desire. This is why I always recommend doing the work of running the wire from the main router to the extender/WAP if at all possible.
