Wanted to see an updated opinion between the two, seems like this debate comes around ever so often.

Cutting the cord is not an option due to low bandwidth available at my location. AT&T's 6MB plan is as fast as it gets which would suck for streaming.

Directv's Choice vs Dish's Top 200.

I have Dish at my home and DirectTV at my camp. I prefer Dish. Price is a little cheaper for comparable packages and I lose reception less often.

Dish is just as good as Directv, don't let others tell you different.

Just switch at the end of every contract and pay half price every other year.

I've had DirecTV for 17 years. I've now had Dish Network for almost 2 years.

Dish is better. Less expensive, much better equipment and I can actually speak to a competent person when I call into Customer Care.

Had both, Dish is cheaper for similar packages, lose service less, and seems to have better equipment in our experience.

Had a salesman for Directv talk to us in BestBuy and asked what we pay and what kind of package we have and when we told him he said he would not even try to talk to us because he could not beat the price and we seemed happy with Dish

From somebody that has had both recently, I'd go with DISH and for me it's not close. Especially if you plan on using the built in sling box to watch on your phone/computer from anywhere! For the price, quality, and features it's a no brainer. I'll leave these refer a friend certificate codes here for you or anyone else that may be interested. It's $5 off your first 10 bills.

If you don't need NFL Sunday ticket.

Dish is better. Cheaper, equipment is better, and sling box is the best

About 10 years ago, I got Dish while I lived in Phoenix. I always said I would never be without 2 things:

1. My Select Comfort Air Mattress
2. Dish Network

Then, I moved to Atlanta. Every time it rains, the local channels go out. If it rains really hard, all the channels go out. I guess any satellite system will have the same problem in Atlanta.

When I complain to Dish about the local channels, they say that those channels are provided as a courtesy. End of discussion.

This year, I have missed the BCS Championship game and the Super Bowl because of the rain. I eventually bought a $20 antenna and use it when Dish local channels go out and get great reception over the air while it is raining.

When Dish is working, it is fantastic!!! I have the old receiver (VIP722K). I use the DVR extensively and really like how it works!

I have the America's Everything Package, every movie channel they have. My bill over the last year has gone from $135 a month to $158 a month. And I still lose reception when it rains, which happens a lot in Atlanta.

Directv has been sanctioned several times by the Feds for questionable advertising practices.

The satellite company advertises a 12-month plan for as little as $19.95, but fails to make it clear that a two-year contract is required. The package's price jumps in the second year by between $25 and $45 per month. Customers that try to cancel early are hit with a fee of up to $480, according to the complaint.

Several years ago, multiple people complained to me that Directv would not provide the basic functionality they needed. I do not know if this has changed recently. Maybe it was an installation problem.

How well satellite functions seems to depend on where you live. Drive around looking for satellite dishes and ask the people how they like their reception. Ask if their particular service meets their needs.

This is my experience with satellite tv. Others seem to have better results.

For the hopper box there is a USB adapter you can get that will integrate the over the air local channels to the guide. It works really well and you can treat them like any other channel.

Same as DirecTV though you have call and threaten to cancel to lower your monthly rate.

Yes in their multi sport pack. If you ask they will almost always give it for half price during football season.

My experience is the exact opposite. It's been a few years since I experimented with Dish, but they were awful. Customer service was terrible. I have no complaints about DirecTV.

Many thanks! I wondered if upgrading the box would help.

This appears to be a good solution for my situation.
