So I currently have Cox Internet at 65$ a month (but that's about to expire and a price hike) and Hulu Live TV at 44$ a month along with HBO at 15$ so a total of 124$ a month.

DirectTV (satellite not DTVNow) will give me a DVR + 4 wired receivers and HBO for 3 months at 109$ and a price lock for 24 months.
I live in New Orleans and clearly it rains a good bit here. Will I be disappointed if I make this move to DTV? Anyone got any opinions.

ETA: Also I'll get 2017 NFL to watch my Falcons plus isn't the normal signal better than Cable and streaming TV? I also believe they'll ignore any overages on streaming but it shouldn't be a problem with "normal" tv anymore.

I'm more interested as to why Hulu live is the completion to the directv dish than anything else

Wait, what? Why am I comparing Hulu Live TV to Directv? Because Hulu Live is how I watch "normal" TV. However, I don't have AMC or even NFL Sunday Ticket or even NFL Channel. It's lacking a few key items for me that Directv would not lack.

Is that what you meant?

My dad lives in Houston and just switched to Direct TV. He is saving a ton of money over Uverse TV however every time it rains he loses the satellite signal.

Yea between that and and an antenna on my house or yard I'm reluctant. May just stick with Hulu live TV and pray they get redzone in the next 2 months and deal with it.
Cox is gonna jack up my internet price though so that blows dick.

I got this deal for a bit less. It is one of the mid level packages. Also, I am an ATT cell phone user that provided some discounts.

I had Directv in new orleans and weather did cause issues. I would not go back to it.

I rarely have my signal go out (once or twice a year). If you have a good installer, you won't have many problems.

If it does go out in bad weather, how long is it out for?

How can you tell? Doing a satellite check during clear days, I'll get 100%, but will still lose it when a bad storm rolls through.

Do you ever switch to SD channels during real heavy storms or just say F it and go without tv?

Mine doesn't go out in a normal storm, but if it's a really bad one i do lose the signal. It's usually not for very long at all. But it has to almost be a hurricane for the SD channels to go out.

minutes. I usually only watch live TV for sports, and it has never interrupted a game for me. When it does go out briefly, you can always watch DVR shows.

I did not lose a signal at all during Hurricane Isaac while all of the cox customers were offline

Fair enough but what do you call a bad weather storm? You live in New Orleans right? If so, we just had bad popup storms in the afternoons over this past weekend. Did it go out for you then?

This and when it's raining is exactly when you need and want to watch tv.

My experience is that these storms usually made the high def channels go out but you just had to switch to the standard def equivalent to keep watching.

I found inclement weather to the southwest knocked out reception.

When the local channels go from regular programming to live severe weather coverage

It just depends on how bad the storm is..It could be a few minutes to 15+ minutes. As another poster said I didn't lose my signal during Issac. That and the price is what I got sick of and got rid of DTV.

Dish with 240 channels, Hopper 3 and 3 joeys for $80. An additional Joey would cost you $7 plus taxes. Occasional signal loss but nothing I can't live with.

Didn't lose signal while watching recently. Granted, I am not always watching tv, but the last time I lost a signal was briefly when we had a puple band come through in late May early june
