First off I've tried talking to DirectTv, they're more confused than I am.

If I have a DirectTv account with 1 Genie and 4 minis at my house....
Can I put a Winegard antenna on my RV/hunting camp and take 2 mini receivers to the camp and hook them up, will I be able to receive satellite signal??

Or is a Genie receiver required in both locations?? DirectTv is saying only one Genie per account

First I'm going to assume you mean the winegard directv dish and not a standard ota antenna.

But I am 99% sure you need a genie there. The genie actually receives the signal and then distributes it to the minis, is my understanding.

Then how does one get RV service if only one genie is allowed per account. Am I supposed to unhook my genie and move it back and forth.

You need the genie receiver there for the mini's to work.

So you either have to have 2 accounts or carry genie back and forth??
There's available RV option to ADD to account so I find it hard to believe you have to move Genie back and forth

I feel your pain on trying to get a straight answer from DTV, Winegard or any of the other RV providers.

frick having to pay for 2 separate accounts

Here's what I did that works well for me:

Order an HR 25 or similar non-genie receiver for ~$100 and move back and forth . $7 per month extra for service but you won't be tied to the genie server

The free standing receivers will still work through the swm system at your house and work by themselves at your camp. ( You just won't get the whole home DVR through that receiver.- just put it on an extra tv in your house that doesnt need that functionality )

These 'free standing' receivers will function without a genie?
I am wan ting to leave them at the camp permanently and avoid moving anything if possible. Also do not need dvr function at camp. Just live tv.

So I have to request an hr25 receiver thru directtv correct? Or are you saying buy them separately?

You need a receiver that is not a dvr

I have 3 in my house and take one of them with me when we go camping

They have somewhat gone away from these and moved on to mini genies but the mini genies bring more limitations to the system

I got my HR25 outside of directv, but they are showing the "H25" model for $99. This should work for what you want to do

At $99. buying the receiver through Directv is probably your best bet. That way you know there aren't any issues with the access card. (a possibility if you buy a used one online)

Also, I would recommend activating it at your house then moving it personally. Just make sure whatever receiver you go with is compatible with your dish and you should be gtg

ETA: Here's the same receiver on Winegard's website. If you have one of their dishes, they could tell you which one ( H24 or H25) is compatible with their dish. (The H25 is most likely what you need)
