Can anyone recommend a good tech person/company in the Lafayette or New Iberia area? Long story short, I need a hard drive partition recovered (or the data) from an
unallocated space. I'm fking screwed...
Thanks!

Have you checked out available apps that could possibly handle this?
Google "testdisk" or "findandmount" may be helpful.

Yeah, been working on this bitch for like 6 hours now and nothing. Don't know whether to punch a wall or shoot myself.

Sorry to hear that man. May I ask exactly what happened/scenario?
To your OP, unfortunately can't guide you to someone to help out in your area.

I'm a dumbass. Been "building" my own systems for almost 20 years. I know just enough to get bye, and this this is my first major screw up. Installed a new SSD tonight and put my OS on it. Had my old 1 TB drive in two partitions (about a 10% one with the OS, and the other 90% one with all of my crap). Was going to delete the small one with the OS and merge the two and I somehow made the 90% one unallocated. I'm distraught. Haven't backed up in forever and I've got tons of important stuff on there.

You said you've tried Testdisk?
I personally think you can solve your issue with UBCD (Ultimate Boot CD - freeware) that includes Parted Magic and TestDisk).
ETA: Just Google those items.

this can handle it

not sure how handy you are.
if u don't have a 2nd computer, borrow a friends or use the libraries, bring along the hdd and wires and that should do the trick.
barring that, for whatever reason, if u got a microcenter down there, they are reliable.
best wishes

Probably about 95% of those who have backed up never bothered to practice a restore either.
I hope this works out for you but next time make sure you schedule a weekend to do a full restoration for practice. A backup is a good first step, but doing a practice restore is vastly better.
