Comcast Capping Home Data Usage

Just got an email that my comcast internet would now be capped at 300GB/month. It's actually a beta test (to see if we revolt?). If you go over, you'll be charged $10/50GB. Unlimited can be purchased for $35/month.
Would that be enough of a catalyst for YOU to switch to a competitor?
At&t says they can get me fiber optic 50mbps for less than I'm currently paying if I also get directv.

It's not actually fiber optic.

I figured as much. And I definitely don't want directv but I also don't want to worry about home internet overage charges. I audited my past few months and usage is all over the place: 80GB in August, 287 September, 87 October.

You get three strikes over 300 before they hit you with an overage charge.
I only went over once this year (so far).

Courtesy Months
In order for our customers to get accustomed to the new data usage plan, we are implementing a three-month courtesy program. That means you will only be subject to overage charges if you exceed the data usage plan amount for a fourth time.

i saw that email yesterday too.
my wife and i will be moving into a house hopefully before this goes into effect and we will be switching to EPB. Its that same super internet that Dam Guide has.

Look at the AT&T UVerse plan again. They have data caps as well.
I've got Comcast over Uverse in my neighborhood and love it. The Uverse plans up here are way more expensive than the Comcast for equivalent speeds once you get past the first year. Not to mention you need to see if AT&T has any equipment fees hidden in there.
I had FO internet with a local telephone co-op before...lose power and my UPS kept my router up for a LONG time...since that was the only thing on it once I shut down computer...but the limiting item was the battery back up on the FO equipment. And if it needed to be replaced it was my responsibility...Don't know if AT&T is similar or not.

you will love it.
It's hilarious they announced the cap here just as EPB is rolling out 10gig.

I switched from Comcast due to the data cap to a company called DSL extreme which uses AT&T Uverse with no caps

If any competitor offered decent bandwidth (>25Mbps down) and didn't have a data cap I would jump on them immediately. I'm on a 250 GB data cap and it sucks. If I went full throttle, I could hit my data cap in ~ 10 hours.

AT&T will probably be slower speeds and with a data cap also.

That's absurd. I added cable to my package for a deal recently just to drop down to $76/month for gigabit fiber. If they capped me at 300GB/month, I'd hit that shite in 2 weeks. I mean, video games are 50+GB now. How the frick is 300 supposed to cover everyone's usage?

All you frickers laughed at me when I told you how shitty this is and how quickly you can hit the cap.
I still go over almost every month because I have a wife and 4 kids who are listening to music and watching Netflix and playing video games and watching YouTube.
